Additional Standard Deduction

Blind taxpayers and taxpayers over 65 may receive an additional deduction. The additional deduction is only available for the taxpayer and their spouse, not their dependents.

What is the additional deduction?

The deduction is only available for those over 65 or blind. For those filing as married filing jointly, it's $1,350. For those filing as single or head of household, it's $1,700. As an example, if a couple (both age 70) file married filing jointly, they'll receive the normal standard deduction of $25,100, plus an extra $1,350 each.
